Mangaturuturu Hut

Located on the western slopes of Mt Ruapehu, this public hut is owned by Whanganui Tramping Club. It is one of a chain that provide accommodation for those experiencing the joy of tramping the 'Round Ruapehu Circuit'.

Mangaturuturu Hut accommodates ten and is a "Serviced Hut". Beginning December 2025 staying in the hut requires booking on the DOC online hut booking system. It free to Whanganui Tramping Club Members.

The Memorandum of Understanding between Whanganui Tramping Club and DOC ensures that all Whanganui Tramping Club members continue to be able to use our hut free of charge. The booking process for club members is as follows:
Club members will need to ask Barry Francis (or if not available, John Mellsop) to arrange a booking with DOC. They will contact our DOC representative who will arrange the booking on the system. This will enable club members to get a bunk without paying the normal hut fee.
If there are a group of members planning a trip, or you are planning to stay on a Friday, Saturday or public holiday, it is advisable to book early.
