The walk to Hukaroa above Raetihi is a 5km stroll up a farm track. The top of Hukaroa at 792m provides a great 360 degree view of the surrounding countryside. Hukaroa is a flat grassed plateau with three buildings and a scattering of radio masts, towers and structures. In the late 1960s the old tall wooden radio masts were transported to the site by Bedford truck and bulldozer - a real mission in those days erecting poles of that size at such a remote site. There is the option of extending the walk and possibly finding a cave.  We will be joined by the Taumarunui Tramping Club.
